Add pet insurance to your employee benefits. HR doesn't have to run it.
A workplace pet insurance benefit for South African employers. Employees enrol themselves in the FurSure portal, premiums go through payroll, and the insurer handles claims. Your team approves the structure and adds one payroll deduction.
Why employees value pet insurance as a benefit
It removes a real financial worry
The problem
When a pet gets sick or injured, the vet bill lands on a household budget that is often already stretched.
What changes
With cover in place, the cost becomes a predictable monthly payroll deduction instead of an emergency.
Why it matters
75% of employees report medium-to-high financial stress. A pet emergency adds to that.
It helps people stay focused at work
The problem
A sick pet means worry, phone calls and unplanned time away while the employee works out how to pay.
What changes
When treatment is covered, the decision is quicker and the employee gets back to work with less hanging over them.
Why it matters
Insured pet owners can act on a vet's advice without first checking what they can afford.
It's a benefit people notice
The problem
Another medical aid top-up is hard to see. Most employees can't tell you what changed.
What changes
Pet cover is visible. Employees talk about it, and it shows the company thinks about the whole household.
Why it matters
76% of employees believe pet healthcare should be standard in benefit packages.
What HR gets, and what HR doesn't have to do
The portal does the administration. Enrolment, plan changes and claims all happen outside your HR team. Payroll adds one deduction.
Employees enrol themselves
Staff sign up, choose a plan and add their pets in the FurSure online portal. HR doesn't collect forms or capture data.
One payroll deduction
We send the deduction spec. Payroll adds one line per employee, timed to your pay run.
Claims go to the insurer
Employees claim directly with the insurer, online or through the Petsly app. HR is never in the claims chain.
You choose who pays
Company-funded, co-funded, or paid by the employee through payroll. Voluntary costs the company nothing in premiums.
Household or per-pet plans
One policy for every pet in the house, or separate cover per pet. Employees pick what fits.
A benefit few employers offer
Most benefit packages don't cover pets. This one stands out when you're recruiting and when you're trying to keep people.
How setup works, step by step
Your team is hands-on for steps one to three. After that the platform and the insurer run it: FurSure handles the technology, the insurer handles the policies.
You
Decide whether the company pays, employees pay through payroll, or you split it. We confirm the structure in the proposal.
Payroll, with our spec
We send the deduction specification matched to your payroll cycle. Payroll adds one deduction line.
HR shares, we support
We provide the launch material. Employees enrol in the portal and choose a household or per-pet plan.
Insurer and the FurSure platform
The insurer services policies and pays claims under the policy terms. The platform runs enrolment and payroll files. HR has no claims administration.
Who does what
The question HR asks first: will this create work for us? Here is the split.
The platform, licensed partners and the insurer handle
- Enrolment, plan selection and pet details, all captured by the employee in the online portal.
- Policy questions, advice and servicing, through licensed partners.
- Claims and claim disputes, handled by the insurer under the policy terms.
- Employees' pet and medical information. It stays between the employee and the insurer, never with HR.
Your HR and payroll team
- Approve the benefit structure and funding model
- Add the payroll deduction using the spec we send
- Share the launch communication with staff
- Nothing else. No forms, no claims, no policy queries.
Employees deal directly with the licensed partners and the insurer for anything about their cover. FurSure is the technology platform, not the insurer. Your company does not need its own financial services licence to offer the benefit.
The plans your employees can choose from
Employees pick their own plan in the portal. Household plans start from R179 a month.
Household plan
One policy that covers all the cats and dogs in the employee's home, with no limit on the number of pets. Two tiers: Essential (R179 a month, R20,000 annual limit) and Plus (R269 a month, R50,000 annual limit).
Individual plans (per pet)
Separate cover for each pet through PawPaw, in two tiers: Smart (from R145 a month, R30,000 annual limit per pet) and Premium (from R225 a month, no overall annual limit).
Cover limits, waiting periods, exclusions and underwriting criteria apply.

Who pays? You decide.
Three ways to fund the benefit. Most employers start with the voluntary option.
Company pays
The company covers the premium as part of the benefits package.
Split the cost
The company contributes a set amount. The employee pays the balance through payroll.
Employee pays (voluntary)
Employees opt in and pay the full premium through a payroll deduction. No premium cost to the company.
What each side gets
What employers get from the FurSure platform
- Payroll deduction specs matched to your pay cycle
- Launch material and employee education for the rollout
- Dedicated support for setup and ongoing questions

“FurSure has been an incredible partner for Round Seed. We've been using their pet insurance as part of our staff incentive programme and couldn't be happier with the experience or the feedback from our team.”
DARIN LOTZ, ROUND SEED
Who is behind the benefit
FurSure is the technology platform. The insurance is offered through a licensed financial services provider and underwritten by a licensed non-life insurer.
